Dr. Mark Bailey is Co-Founder of DataField Intelligence, where he works at the intersection of artificial intelligence, complexity science, and national security. His work focuses on interpretable and trustworthy AI, complex-systems modeling, secure analytics, and the responsible use of emerging technologies in defense and intelligence contexts. He is also a Research Affiliate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University, and the Associate Director of the Center for the Future of AI, Mind, and Society.
Previously, Mark was an Associate Professor at the National Intelligence University, where he served as Department Chair for AI, Cyber, Influence, and Data Science and as Director of the Biological and Computational Intelligence Center. Before joining NIU, he worked as a data scientist on artificial intelligence programs across the U.S. Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. His writing has appeared in publications including Futures, Nautilus, and Homeland Security Today, and he was named to Homeland Security Today’s 50 Trailblazers of 2023. He is also an Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. Outside of his professional work, he does ceramics, is an avid beekeeper, and endeavors to turn his yard into a vegetable garden.
